About Us
Hi, Iβm Jessica! I started baking several years ago as an exercise to work through my depression and anxiety, and itβs blossomed into an entire passion. While I still struggle with depression and anxiety, they have taken a back seat to creating delicious and unique flavours, and dedicating time to support BIPOC organizations and other marginalized communities, as I am an Asian woman myself.
Why we do what we do
When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit and the murder of Regis Korchinski-Paquet and George Floyd occurred at the hands of the police soon after, Bakers Against Racism co-founders Chef Paola Velez, Chef Willa Pelini, and Chef Rob Rubba, organized and encouraged people to participate in their local, virtual bake sale to raise money to fight racial injustice, which quickly expanded to encompass worldwide participation.
Since my own participation in the first activation in 2020, I have found this to be an excellent way to not only make the community we live in a better place, but also exercise my creative abilities. For every seasonal macaron box sold, Blossoming Macarons donates 15% of sales to organizations in Canada that furthers and supports BIPOC:
In 2020, we raised $$$ for Bakers Against Racism.
In 2021, we raised $1,332 for (URL LINK).
In 2022, we raised $$$ for (URL LINK).
In 2023, we are raising funds to support (NWAC).
If you are able to, please consider donating to other worthy causes that aim to support BIPOC in Canada. Being an ally is multifaceted. Make sure to do your own reading on what it means to be anti-racist.
